Essential Surf Travel Kit

Small Things

You won’t forget your surfboard, but it’s easy to forget (or lose) the little things you need like wax and fin bolts. Invest in a nifty travel pack and shove it all in for when you need it. This one from Northcore is roomy enough to stow your wash kit too.

Board Lock

Don’t take your board on your travels without a surfboard lock. This Lockjaw system works with any surfboard fitted with a leash plug and secures instantly to whatever anchor point you choose. Ahh, peace of mind!

Surf Watch

Get the most out of your travels with a surf watch. The Rip Curl SearchGPS Smart Surf Watch is the best on the market. This piece of kit easily sets tide and time data for your home-break or 1,360 other locations, tracks your surf, registers your top speed and distance and racks up your wave count in each session. Better still, you can sync your data to the Rip Curl SearchGPS App or website to re-live your surf with location maps, image sharing and graphic charts which showcase your session. A better way to show-off than silly selfies…

Wax Works

Wax can be taxing when you travel. Avoid messy scenarios with a wax combo box, like this one from Waxhead, that’s a container, wax comb and scraper built into one.

Ding Dong

Sometimes dings are unavoidable, but they don’t have to ruin your session. Get prepared and pack some repair putty. Session Saver will have you back in the water in just twenty minutes.

Change Smart

A change mat takes up minimal room in your bag (and easily fits in your board bag) but makes life on the road a lot easier. As well as the obvious benefits of giving you somewhere clean and dry to change, this one from Northcore carries your wet neoprene. Tidy.

Nice n’ Dry

If you don’t want to end up with a thin tourist towel complete with migraine inducing neon dolphins, pack your own. We like this bad boy from Billabong – 100% cotton, extra-large and easy on the eye.

Bag Tidy

A decent board bag is essential for happy travels. We recommend choosing one with foam padding and tail protector. This one is a great choice as it also offers shoulder straps and neoprene handles, stash pockets and features premium fabrication and ventilation.

Suits You

When you’re getting ready to surf away from home make sure you’re packing a wetsuit to suit your destination. You may have been making the most of the Scottish season in a hooded 6mm but you’ll probably want something a little lighter if you’re heading for warmer shores! If you are going to make us jealous with sunny surf snaps, do it in one of these stylish suits – we love this one for women and this one for the guys.

Are you planning to do some travelling this year? What will you be packing? We’d love to hear from you.
